About
Many years ago in 2014, right before Thanksgiving, we had Christmas lights installed on our roof for the very first time. My daughter was about to turn 3. I remember seeing the look of wonderment in her eyes light up when she saw the lights on the rooftop. So that year, I decided to go all out and decorate the rest of our yard with lighted decorations. Watching her excitement to unbox and see all of those new decorations made me even more excited!
We worked for hours, wrapping the trees and plugging in all the lighted reindeer, snowmen, and outdoor Christmas trees that played Christmas carols. We even had presents under the tree that lit up and twinkled. The look on her face when we turned it all on for the first time was worth the hours it took to set up and the money we spent on the decorations. The look on her face made me forget how badly my neck and back hurt. That precious, priceless smile made all of my sore muscles 100% worth it!
Every night she and I would walk outside together to turn everything on. We would stand out there and sing along to the songs coming from the Christmas tree. It was beautiful! And for my 3-year-old, it was MAGICAL!!!
A few evenings later, after our "nightly lighting ceremony", it started to rain right in the middle of us singing along to Jingle Bells. I'm sure you can imagine what happened next - the music stopped playing and the yard went dark. There were tears and, yes, maybe some of them were mine. I was so frustrated and disappointed. All of the hard work we put into making the yard festive, all of the time, effort, and money spent felt wasted in that moment just because of a few sprinkles of rain. There had to be a better way...
There HAD to be a way to keep the lights on even if was raining or snowing. A few days after the rain dried up, we tried wrapping the connections in plastic baggies and electrical tape. Sadly, water did what water always does... it found a way to seep through.
We searched and searched for another solution. The only thing that we could find was a large, bulky extension cord encasement. They were expensive and there was no way to use them to cover every single connecting light strand wrapped around the trees. Those extension cord covers do not bend around the curves of a tree.
Unfortunately, it was forecasted that Texas was going to have an unseasonably rainy winter. If we didn’t figure out a better way to waterproof these connections, our yard would be dark for most of the holiday season.
We needed a better solution! We needed a simpler solution! We needed something impenetrable, yet pliable enough to use for the light strands on the trees.
I spoke to a lot of friends and neighbors and realized we weren’t the only house having trouble keeping the lights on. Everyone’s yard went dark any time it rained. Everyone had to reset their timers and GFCIs. Everyone was frustrated. Everyone wanted a simple, cost-effective solution.
Hey! We might just be able to make a business out of helping people weatherproof their extension cords!
Hundreds and hundreds of man-hours went into the Research & Development of our first product. We had to find the proper formulation of materials to use, then we had to figure out how exactly to make these Waterproof Gaskets. We tried dozens of ways to make these things. Most ended in failure. After consulting and working with a team of licensed electricians, engineers and machine shop personnel, we finally had it figured out! After an entire year of R&D, we found our solution! We had the right materials to use and built a small specialized machine to help us manufacture our shields.
By the time the next holiday season rolled around... we were ready to test our new shields. Guess what? Our GFCIs did not trip once!
Friends and neighbors were excited to try them out. We could now start to take orders!
At first, the manufacturing process was painstakingly slow. Once we realized how many people wanted our Waterproof Gaskets we knew we had to develop a different way to make them. Our original, small machine just wasn’t going to cut it. We have since developed 3 new machines to make our manufacturing process go smoother and a little faster. Each new machine is better than the last. As with any new product, there is always a learning curve. We are constantly striving for improvements in how we manufacture our Waterproof Gaskets. Even though we use machinery in the process of manufacturing, EVERY Gasket is still handmade and inspected before we ship them out the door. We take great pride in our work, and we LOVE knowing that we are helping our customers protect their flow of power.
We have grown leaps and bounds since we started this company. Along the way, have found many different applications for our products. We have rebranded and we have developed new products at the request of our customers. We will always continue to develop and improve so that we can serve you as Your Power Guardian.
This family-owned company came to life because a simple solution was needed to keep the lights on when it rained. All of this was started so I could watch my little girl’s face light up and sparkle when the Christmas lights shined. However, none of this would have been possible without you, our loyal customers. We were able to take this product to market and will continue to grow as a company because of you!
